The Samsung YP-U3 digital MP3 player doesn’t have a nice large touch-screen like the iPod Touch or many of the other “fancy” features in the more expensive MP3 players on the market. Although the Samsung YP-U3 doesn’t have a lot of the “bells and whistles” of more expensive players, it’s still one of the best values on the market when it comes to MP3 players.

The Samsung YP-U3 is exceptionally small, which makes it easy to carry around. It only weighs about 1 ounce. This player comes in either a 2 GB or 4 GB model, which will give you enough memory to get over a 1000 songs in the player easily.

Transferring music from the computer is very simple with the Samsung YP-U3. This MP3 player actually has a built-in USB connector, so there is no need for a USB cable. The USB connector pops out like a switchblade and it plugs directly into the computer.

The Samsung YP-U3 features a 1.8 inch OLED display, which is the opposite of “flashy”, but it really works well with the YP-U3’s modest appearance. This MP3 player is designed to perform, and not necessarily designed to look sexy.

Organizing music with the Samsung YP-U3 is a snap on this flash player. You can organize music by artist, albums, songs, genres, and playlists. There is no video or photo compatibility with the YP-U3, but that again adds to the minimalist feel of this player. Besides, who wants to watch video on a 1.8 inch screen anyway?

Samsung has also fitted the YP-U3 with an FM radio tuner and a voice recorder feature for recording voice messages. The sound performance of the YP-U3 is surprisingly good for such a small player, and it offers a variety of equalizer settings to get the sound just the way you want it.

So for those people looking for a great gift for someone, the Samsung YP-U3 would be a great choice for about $60-$80. Anyone would be happy with this straight-forward, “no-frills” MP3 player. PCMag even gave this player the Editor’s Choice Award with a score of 4.5 out of 5, and they called the Samsung YP-U3 the best budget MP3 player for the holidays; not bad!
