Urgent need for skilled workers for Australia A delegation from a manufacturing association from Australia has arrived in Manila to conduct preliminary interviews for skilled workers needed for companies in that southern continent. Interviews start today, April 25, for these categories: welders/fabricators , pipe welders and boilermakers.

Australia also needs hundreds of construction workers for numerous home and building projects and it is looking to the Philippines to supply these skilled manpower in order to satisfy a construction boom in New South Wales.

According to Cherry Saunar, president of Jerpi Overseas, she has received hundreds of job orders for civil, industrial and mechanical engineers, construction foremen, electrical and plumbing specialists from a reputable Australian staffing agency during her visit to Australia recently.

The Filipino workers who will accepted to Australia will be given work permits for a duration of one to three years but they will be qualified to apply for an immigrant status after one year residency. There is also a demand for agricultural workers in farms and estates outside the main cities of Sydney , Melbourne, Canberra and Perth to take over the farm and agricultural production. All work permit applications will be coursed through a licensed local agency in the Philippines and applicants should consult first with the POEA for verification of the status of the agency.
