Besides, this is just a hoax!. I am attaching a report from our Geo Services Dept. Again, earthquakes cant be predicted. And also, there's no organization currently capable of predicting earthquakes which is very specific in term of magnitude and the date. There is no " US Geological Society", only US Geological Survey but this agency does not issue immediate predictions especially for areas outside the US. Past experiences shows that rumors of a predicted strong earthquake are common after disastrous earthquakes in nearby countries.

Ano, mapauwat la kita hin sugad hini na mga hoax? Last year there was a text circulating that a big tidal wave or something will hit Biliran Province. (unfortunately hehehehe!) it didnt hapen. Again, if you're with the Lord, ngano man mahadlok ka? Siguro if you're faith is not strong mahadlok. Mostly siguro sa mga tawo sa Biliran Province or sa Pilipinas in general are Christians, and as such, mostly pirme nasingba, but why is it their faith is not that strong. Funny? I pity these people.

MANILA, Philippines -- An earthquake in the Philippines as an aftermath of the strong tremor that rocked China Monday is a "hoax" as no organization can predict the occurrence of such natural disaster, officials said Wednesday.

National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) Anthony Golez issued the statement after text messages circulated that the Philippines would be hit by a 6.8 magnitude earthquake Wednesday night.

"Rumors of strong earthquake are common after a disastrous earthquake event in nearby countries,” said Golez, who is also the Palace deputy spokesman.

But he said there is “no organization capable of predicting an earthquake which is very specific in terms of magnitude and date."

"The Philippines can be affected by a major earthquake but as to when exactly this would happen could not be predicted. What is important is we continue to practice earthquake preparedness and risk reduction measures," Golez said.

Renato Solidum, chief of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, in an interview on dzMM Teleradyo also denied there is an available technology today that can make short-term predictions of tremors.

Even the US Geological Survey said quakes cannot be forecast.

“Neither the USGS nor Caltech nor any other scientists have ever predicted a major earthquake. They do not know how, and they do not expect to know how any time in the foreseeable future,” the USGS said on its website.

MANILA, Philippines--Earthquakes cannot be predicted, the US Geological Survey (USGS) has said as rumors swirled here that 6.8-magnitude quake would hit the Philippines Wednesday night.
“Neither the USGS nor Caltech nor any other scientists have ever predicted a major earthquake. They do not know how, and they do not expect to know how any time in the foreseeable future,” the USGS said on its website.
Text messages have been passed on supposedly from a "US Geological Society" predicting the strong quake.
The US Geological Survey says it focuses its efforts on the long-term mitigation of earthquake hazards by helping to improve the safety of structures, rather than by trying to accomplish short-term predictions.
“However based on scientific data, probabilities can be calculated for potential future earthquakes,” the USGS said.
“For example, scientists estimate that over the next 30 years the probability of a major earthquake occurring in the San Francisco Bay area is 67 percent and 60 percent in Southern California,” it added.
