Global warming, caused by human activity, is already producing damages: the quick melting of the Arctic ices, extreme droughts or floods, desertification or the disappearance of glaciers that feed big rivers. I f nothing is done, climate changes will be more and more a menace to the environment’s delicate balance and, in the long term, to humanity. It is a moral duty of all the nations and all of us to act now. Because the Earth, our common home, is a gift from God and we are all its steward.

The commercial loggers cut the trees. The owners of factories, the owners of cars, planes, fill the atmosphere with pollution. They wallow in material wealth as they laugh within their hearts doing these things. Now that global warming is starting to spread its wrath, they really should have reason to be worried. They have so much to lose. But to the poor man? He has nothing to lose. Global warming would be a great equalizer. When in wealth and opportunities men are not equal, in global warming all men will finally be made equal. That somehow would be a comfort to the poor man.
