Every company faces the problem of people leaving the company for better pay or profile.

Early this year, Mark, a senior software designer, got an offer from a prestigious international firm to work in its India operations developing specialized software. He was thrilled by the offer.

He had heard a lot about the CEO. The salary was great. The company had all the right systems in place employee-friendly human resources (HR) policies, a spanking new office, and the very best technology, even a canteen that served superb food.

Twice Mark was sent abroad for training. "My learning curve is the sharpest it's ever been," he said soon after he joined.

Last week, less than eight months after he joined, Mark walked out of the job.

Why did this talented employee leave ?

Arun quit for the same reason that drives many good people away.

The answer lies in one of the largest studies undertaken by the Gallup Organization. The study surveyed over a million employees and 80,000 managers and was published in a book called "First Break All The Rules". It came up with this surprising finding:

If you're losing good people, look to their manager .... manager is the reason people stay and thrive in an organization. And he 's the reason why people leave. When people leave they take knowledge, experience and contacts with them, straight to the competition.

"People leave managers not companies ," write the authors Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman.

    Mostly manager drives people away?

HR experts say that of all the abuses, employees find humiliation the most intolerable. The first time, an employee may not leave, but a thought has been planted. The second time, that thought gets strengthened. The third time, he looks for another job.

When people cannot retort openly in anger, they do so by passive aggression. By digging their heels in and slowing down. By doing only what they are told to do and no more. By omitting to give the boss crucial information. Dev says: "If you work for a jerk, you basically want to get him into trouble. You don 't have your heart and soul in the job."

Different managers can stress out employees in different ways - by being too controlling, too suspicious, too pushy, too critical, but they forget that workers are not fixed assets, they are free agents. When this goes on too long, an employee will quit - often over a trivial issue.

Talented men leave. Dead wood doesn't.

THIS IS VERY TRUE TO US FILIPINOS, MOST OF US WORK NOT ONLY OF HAVING A FAT WALLET, OFTEN WE VALUE RECOGNITION AND GOOD WORK RELATIONSHIP. AKALA NG IBA LALO NA SA MGA FOREIGN INVESTORS HANGAD LANG NATIN ANG MATAAS NA SWELDO WHICH IS MALI.

Employees with variety needs wish to be in a working environment where they feel those needs are to be supplanted sooner or later. We work to feed our satisfaction of becoming a useful individual in the society and worthy of confirmation, acceptance, and affirmation. We always like to work in a organization wherein harmonious relationships among other emplopyees can be easily established. Yes, for me i do admit that my first reason why i need to find a job is to be compensated. I need to acquire my basics needs like food, pay my bills and others. But, as what they say human's satisfaction is so complex that in a matter time i will look for something else and start evaluating my current work. I may leave the job sooner if i am not satisfied with the benefits it brings to me but i need to save first for my rainy days not unless i have a new job waiting for me next door.

I recalled those times that I am still a Sr. Engineering staff in PICOP way back year 1986. It happened one morning when we had a toolbox meeting together and our Department Manager. Since the beginning often scolded one of our young staff because of design mistakes, not a big issue if we have to weight it. But I can't comprehend what our boss wanted to show to us. But that lad couldn't take it anymore and suddenly with out a sign he shouted at the top of his voice and said, "BAKIT LAGI NA LANG AKO, WALA NABA AKONG NAGAWANG TAMA?" Our boss at that time couldn't answer. He was shocked and his face became red. That very day the young staff engineer filed a irrevocable resignation letter.

There is an old adage that says "COMPANY IS NOT HUMAN, IT'S A THING". Another sayings said "LEARN TO LOVE YOUR WORK, BUT NEVER FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR COMPANY"

A boss job is not only to make the company bloom, its also his job to take care of the staffs and make sure that thier talent is not wasted just because he does not like his boss attitude.

By the way jing, how old are you.

I think I should start a thread where everyone can post thier picture How about it?

I recalled this thread because yesterday my best friend a Senior Supervisor of our Power Plant Design Department resigned with no resignation letter or even a hunch that he will resign before hand. Just now, only I knew that the main cause secondary to financial need is his Boss. His boss is much younger than him earned plenty of masteral degree in UP and Ateneo but the attitude can't be learned in the School, built in. Very bossy and self centered, somehow I really convince that not all guys resigned because of money but because they value respect for themselves.
