    1) Hain man ang mga hospital/clinic linens nga panggamit para sa gihimo nga procedure ni doc gov?
Tua ba nabutang sa Biliran Garden Hotel beds?

    2) Nganong si doc gov ra man naggamit ug glove latex?
Kalooy sa assistant – with bare hands lang intaon. Pelegro may infection.
Wala kahatagi ug laing glove kay seguro gi-reserve para gamiton buho sa babaye?
Reserve para kamutin ang babaye ba or isol-ob para sa isang flexible finger-look-alike nasa baba?
Very bright gyod mong kaliwata da…..very smart.

    Our grand fiesta crowds

The municipal government of Naval planned a grand celebration for the return of its fiesta to the original October schedule this year. The people responded and came up with the grandest celebration we ever had in recent memory.

Our recent fiesta phenomenon and its details will be told, retold, and embellished in the months to come by those who have witnessed the related events. There will be claims and counter-claims of what and who caused the successful results. But one thing is certain: the whole spectacle was connected with our morale-boosting victory during the May elections and was inspired by our new set of home-grown political leaders.

For a dozen years, we had been told time and time again that our progress and prosperity as a province, town and people are best facilitated by the goodwill, kindness, generosity, and even the political genius and connections of a migrant political dynasty in our midst. For years, a significant portion of our population believed in and even promoted this myth.

Then a bullet felled a former governor on Sept. 7, 2006. The ensuing political ferment in our vicinity, and the strategic electoral victories last May exorcised our people of the blinding spell that had cowed them to submission and indifference for long. Suddenly, an emperor-pretender before us was exposed for what he is: he has no “clothes.” The same impression was extended to the entire dynasty.

It was no surprise therefore that the “naked” ones slunk away from the fiesta extravaganzas that made them center-pieces in the past. And without them and their protective barbed wires, real and figurative, the audience appeared in the bleachers.

The large crowds that voluntarily graced the nightly spectacles at the new Naval Gymnasium during the eleven-day celebration were a sight to behold. Their numbers and presence could make a serious, self-displaying politician weep in envy. We never had that many spectators in our public shows in a long time.

For instance, during the Grand Pueblo Night alone, which opened the festival, the crowd of nearly 2,000 was already more than triple the crowd that attended the Coronation Night in the eve of our last January fiesta in 2006. It was a portent of the bigger crowds that followed.

The gym was filled to the rafters by people, estimated at some 4,000 or one-tenth of Naval’s population, who watched the Miss Bagasumbul Festival 2007 in the evening of Oct. 3. What made it doubly significant was that it was a paying crowd, with each person paying P20 or P50 at the entrance. Not even a hakot crowd whipped up by the dynasty in the recent past could approximate that number.

The gym was similarly filled during the Balik-Naval International Night the next evening, Oct. 4, the biggest gathering of Navalian balikbayans in years, and during the Coronation Night for the Matron of Naval 2007 in the evening of Oct. 5.

The fiesta closed with the Jamming sa Kalye: Tsinelas Party in the evening of Oct. 6. It was also attended by a huge crowd.

What the Navalians had proven during the celebrations from Sept. 26 to Oct. 6 was that, left to our own devices and creativity, we could manage our affairs and produce feats that we thought we are not capable of doing.

Well, we just did it. Already, there are intimations to replicate the Tsinelas Party spectacle to welcome the year 2008. That will resurrect the annual Grand March, the annual unifying ritual of our people for decades, which was stopped by some leaders who went out of their way to keep us divided-and-ruled at the turn of this new century.

In the meantime, we are faced with the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections. We hope the same enthusiasm and self-satisfaction and sense of responsibility that made us regain our pride in ourselves over the recent months could also result in better choices of leaders to run our barangay-level affairs.
