Tacloban City (August 24) — The Naval Institute of Technology College of Agriculture in Naval, Biliran, the nominee of Region 8 to the Search for Kabalikat Award – Institution category of the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority, is one of the six finalists for this year’s search, TESDA Region 8 Director Juan Sabulao Sr. informed.
The only state college in Biliran Province, NIT serves Biliranons and their next-door neighbors through instruction, research and extensions to equip the young men and women with effective educational and technological skills to enter into professional, industrial, domestic or other worthwhile occupations in response to “people empowerment” and “global competitiveness”.
In support to technical education and skills development, the school conducts Career Symposium for its graduating students.
In 2006, NIT has recognized as one of the pioneering institutions in the country in the implementation of Ladderized education Program (LEP) under EO 358. To date, a total of 186 students had availed of LEP.
In collaboration with TESDA, thirteen faculty members were sent to Trainers Methodology/Assessors Methodology Course in 2006 in support of the implementation of LEP.
The Adopt-A-School, Barangay Integrated Development Approach for Nutrition Improvement (BIDANI) and the Six Month Caregiver program are some of the new programs undertaken by the college. The school has also successfully deployed students to Singapore, USA, Japan and Malaysia in 2006 to gain a wonderful international experience in consonance with borderless education.
The other finalists in the Kabalikat Award Institution category are Commission on Information and Communications and Technology of TESDA Central Office; Marinduque State College in Region IV-B; Solid Future Foundation, Inc.in Region V;Center for Industrial Technology and Enterprise Institute, Inc.in Region VII; and Marist Technical Training Program – NDDU in Region XII.
The Kabalikat Award is an annual institutional award hosted by TESDA in connection with its August 25 anniversary celebration. This Award aims to recognize and honor outstanding partners in the promotion and enhancement of technical education and skills development.
The Award is conferred to outstanding local government units, institutions and industry for their contributions in the promotion and development of the country’s middle level manpower. Said contribution maybe in the form of technology/competency sharing, donation of training machines and trainees, on the job training and social support services to manpower development. (PIA 8)
