NAVAL, Biliran (BDEO) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)- Biliran District Engineering Office (DEO) celebrates its 64th Founding Anniversary with the theme: One Team, One Dream” on Thursday, April 20.
The one-day activity commenced with a holy mass at 8:00 in the morning held at DPWH-Biliran DEO followed by a motorcade around the town of Naval. Different activities were held inside the DPWH-Biliran DEO’s compound.
The raising of team banners and lighting of sports cauldron signaled the start of various activities.
OIC-District Engineer (DE) Alfredo L. Bollido and Assistant District Engineer Irwin L. Antonio lead the raising of DPWH Banner while singing the DPWH Hymn with the Biliran DEO employees.
As each team competes for the team yells, all participants were on hype.
During the opening remarks of ADE Antonio, he emphasized the importance of celebrating the event.
“The purpose of having this anniversary is that we have to recall those people who founded this District Office and know the story behind its existence,” said ADE Antonio.
DPWH-Biliran DEO was originally founded on April 8, 1959, by virtue of Republic Act No. 2141. Due to time restraints, this year’s celebration was moved to April 20.
“This is the time to pause our workloads and to give time for ourselves to enjoy and play,” ADE Antonio concluded.
After the opening remarks, various fun-filled activities and games were played for the rest of the day which ended with a Zumba dance.
Highlights of the said celebration was done in the evening event. There was a team presentation, curacha dance and awarding of the winners which later wrapped up with a disco dance.
OIC-DE Bollido revealed that the 64th Founding Anniversary is still the second time that the District Office celebrated the event.
“Today is the 64th founding anniversary of our District Office but actually it is just our 2nd year that we really did celebrate this event. We may have a simple celebration today but nonetheless, we should all enjoy and take a break from all our duties and responsibilities as employees and join as we create new memories that we will look back on years from now,” OIC-DE Bollido said.
DPWH-Biliran DEO first celebrated its founding anniversary on April 08, 2022 thru the initiative of the late District Engineer Ferdinand A. Briones. It is one of the legacies of the late DE Briones to Biliran DEO that will be practiced by the office yearly.
