Cabucgayan, Biliran— Defeated gubernatorial candidate for the Province of Biliran in 2019 Edwin Masbang filed today (Oct 3) his Certificate of Candidacy for mayoralty in his hometown where he served as mayor in 2016-2019. Masbang ran under Sen. Manny Pacquiao’s Promdi Party.

Masbang was assisted at the Comelec by his wife incumbent Mayor Marisol Masbang and only daughter Faith Hanna. Also filing their Certificates of Candidacies are entire slate led by Vice Mayoralty candidate incumbent councilor Jessie Lamoste, councilor reelectionist Jimboy Torregoza, Paul Juntilla and newcomer Roberto Albesa, Salome Fariñas, Ariel Garing, Noel Paa, Rolando Sanoria and Chris Sulla.

Masbang in an interview said that he wants to continue the program that he started which his wife incumbent Mayor Marisol Masbang could not start because she is politicking from the council. Among this he said are from the Rural Development Projects which the municipality has an agreement with and in fact already released P12 million for livelihood but the counterpart of P215, 000 was not approved by the council who is not supportive to his wife that’s why it was put on a shelf. He added that another priority of his is about the mitigation of the Climate Change that is why during his administration they have adopted a ridge to reef development approach with a tie up with the Visayas State University to come up with a rain-forestation to reduce the impact of the Climate Change.

He went on to say that this pandemic has put down the local economy, that’s why if returned as mayor he will focus on agriculture to come up with food sufficiency in this town because they have no rice production and they are dependent on farming and fishing. He said that he’ll find modern methods in farming and fishing in order to attain the goal of food sufficiency in the municipality and for the agriculture sector to regain their losses during the pandemic. He added that he also wants to find measures to balance the economy and the state of health adding that while the leaders today show worries about the welfare of the health of the people they should also find measures for the livelihood of the people.

A short speech of all candidates at the flagpole of the Municipal Hall followed after the filing of COC and picture takings and rising of hands of Mayor Marisol Masbang and her husband to all candidates ended the day’s activity.
