San Isidro, Leyte— Three people were killed while one survived when four unidentified gunmen barged into a barangay hall and shot without hesitation the people inside about 9: 30 in the evening on Saturday, Feb 24, in Brgy. Daja Diot of this municipality.

San Isidro COP Police Major Reymund Quinagutan identified the casualties as Elizalde Tabon, 55, married, Brgy. Chairman, Paul Al Mandero, 52, married, Brgy. Kagawad, Rusty Salazar, legal age, Tanod, while the survivor was identified as Alex Bacor, legal age, married all residents of Brgy. Daja Diot here.

Major Quinagutan in a telephone interview said that a concerned citizen called their office about 9: 35 in the evening last night informing of a shooting incident inside the barangay hall of Brgy. Daja. He said that he personally led the responding team going to the said barangay to verify the veracity of the report and to conduct an investigation. Upon arrival he added that they saw the first victim who was later learned to be the tanod lie in one’s belly bleeding but still breathing while inside the barangay the chairman and the Kagawad were seen bleeding and lifeless while one person was bleeding from a suspected gunshot wound in his right shoulder.

Major Quinagutan disclosed that based on the initial investigation they have conducted, prior to the shooting, the Brgy. Chairman, Kagawad and constituent Bacor were inside the barangay hall conducting a meeting, when four armed men arrived. The armed men shot first the Tanod Salazar who was manning and barged into the office where the three were conducting a meeting and shot the Brgy. Chairman and Kagawad in the head while shooting Bacor only in his right shoulder. After the shooting the suspects immediately fled on board a Honda XRM and Honda CRF towards an unknown direction.

The tanod and Bacor were immediately brought by local MDRRMO personnel to Calubian District Hospital where the tanod was declared Dead on Arrival, while Bacor is presently recuperating in the said hospital.

Police recovered from the crime scene at least 11 empty shells of suspected .45 caliber ammunition.
Major Quinagutan added that a thorough investigation is being conducted by the local police to identify the suspects and to know the motive in the said killing.
