Tabango, Leyte — A thorough investigation is being conducted by the local police in connection with the shooting to death of a Sangguniang Barangay Member (SBM) at about 7:45 in the evening on Tuesday, February 20, in Sitio Banahaw, Brgy. Tugas of this municipality.

Tabango COP Police Capt. Carmelo I. Gacho identified the victim as Ronald Palacio, legal age, married, SBM, a resident of Brgy. Sta Rosa here.

Capt. Gacho in a telephone interview said that their station received a cellular phone call from concerned citizens about an alleged shooting that transpired in Brgy. Sta. Rosa. He said that they immediately responded to the area to verify the said report and to conduct an investigation. Upon arrival in the area, they found a man slumping on the concrete pavement bleeding and lifeless.

Capt. Gacho continued that initial investigation conducted by the responding police disclosed that the victim was travelling from Tabango Town Proper to Brgy Sta Rosa, Tabango, Leyte on board a single motorcycle. He said that while traversing the road going to their barangay, the unidentified suspect/s suddenly appeared and shot the victim with the use of a firearm of unknown caliber that resulted in his instantaneous death. The suspect fled to an unknown direction on board an unknown vehicle after the incident.

Personnel from SOCO recovered five empty shells of .45 caliber pistol, and two (2) live ammunition from the crime and discovered at least two gun-shot wounds, one in the head and another in the back of the victim’s body.

Meanwhile Capt. Gacho disclosed that they are searching the CCTVs in the areas to investigate the participation of a gray Innova who was seen on standby about 4-5 kilometers away from the area. He said that minutes before the victim was shot dead the MPV was seen leaving in the area where he was found.
