NAVAL, Biliran (BDEO) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)- Biliran District Engineering Office (Biliran DEO) completes the construction of a new bridge at Sitio Ilijan, Brgy. Poblacion leading to Brgy. Salangi and Sitio Barubuhan, Brgy. Iyosan in the Municipality of Almeria.

The said project now provides the motorists and residents of the said barangays, a safer, faster and convenient access in going to the town of Almeria and to its neighboring municipalities, benefiting more or less 1,000 residents.

OIC- District Engineer Irwin L. Antonio disclosed that the construction of the new bridge is necessary to address the flooding problem in the area.

“This bridge project has a length of 40-meters and is designed to be more elevated than the existing old bridge to make it accessible to the general public even during flooding on the adjacent areas,” OIC-DE Antonio said.

The said project has a total allocation of Php 50-million under Local Infrastructure Program (LIP). Aside from the construction of the new bridge, also included in the scope of work is the construction of flood control structure and the installation of 10 solar street lights.

Mr. Isidro Sumaya, Barangay Captain of Brgy. Salangi and one of the beneficiaries of the project expressed his gratitude for the realization of the new bridge.

“Ako nagpasalamat ko nga kini nga tulay nahimo, kay sauna nga tulay naglisod me pag-agi pag nagbaha, sa karon nga sitwasyon, pasalamat ko nga di na jud me maglisud pag-agi bisan ug naa’y mga karga nga mga produkto sa Salangi, maayo na ang agi-anan, kay sauna nga tulay lisud gyud labi na ug magbaha lisud me kaayo makaagi unya mudangog pud banda dinha sa ubos.”

(I am really grateful that this project was implemented because we are no longer bothered by flood, before, it was really difficult for us especially in transporting our farm products because the old bridge is susceptible to flooding and can become slippery, but now it is much better).
