NAVAL, Biliran, (BDEO) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)- Biliran District Engineering Office (DEO) completes the first phase of the road project leading to Pondol Falls in Brgy. Iyusan, Municipality of Almeria.

Located at the road junction of Brgy. Tamarindo to Brgy. Iyusan, the said project involves the rehabilitation of existing concrete pavement and concreting of existing gravel road with a length of 150-meter, two-lane road, a width of 6.10 meters, and a thickness of 0.23 meters with drainage structures and road shoulders.

Implemented under FY 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA) fund, this project has a total allocation of Php5-million facilitated for release through the initiative and support of Cong. Gerardo J. Espina Jr., Representative of the Lone District of Biliran.

Mr. James Carlo Cezar, a resident of Brgy. Iyusan, expressed his gratitude for the realization of the said project. (I am thankful for this road project because it will further help boost tourism in our barangay since many tourists will now be encouraged to visit Pondol Falls. Through this, it will help our barangay and our community to generate income.)

Mr. Cezar added that the construction of drainage which is part of the road project has also solved stagnant water problem on roads. (This drainage which is part of road project also helps in solving water problem on roads because there is already a passage where the water can flow freely.)

(I hope that this road will continue all the way to the location of the waterfalls because it will attract more tourists if the road is wider, convenient and safer for the motorists),

OIC-District Engineer (DE) Irwin L. Antonio disclosed that the district office has a total proposed allocation of P125-Million for the completion of the entire project with a total proposed length of 2.20-kilometer two-lane road which is to be implemented under FY 2024-FY 2026 multi-year funding.
