NAVAL, Biliran, (BDEO) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Biliran District Engineering Office (DEO) completes the Php50-million road widening project at Barangay Sanggalang in the town of Biliran.
The said project involves the road concreting of one additional lane on both sides of the existing road with a length of 1.608-kilometer including the construction of drainage and slope protection structure.
OIC-District Engineer (DE) Irwin L. Antonio said that the completed project is expected to enhance the safety feature of the road as well as improve the traffic flow along Biliran-Cabucgayan road section.
“This project is implemented to complement the widened roads in the neighboring towns along Biliran Circumferential Road and for a safer and convenient travel of the travelling public,” OIC-DE Antonio said.
Mr. Michael Dela Peña, a “habal-habal” driver and a resident of Barangay Julita in Biliran town attested the advantage of the completed project in his everyday travel along the said road section.
“Dako an akon pagpasalamat nga dako an pagbag-o han karsada kay hadton una makuri paman an karsada kay duha man la ka lanes, kasagaran mayda gud maaksidenti. Salamat ha DPWH han ira pagwiden hini nga karsada,” Mr. Dela Peña said.
(I am very thankful for the improvement made to this road because it was difficult before when there were only two lanes which is more prone to accident. Thank you, DPWH, for widening this road)
The said project was completed under the FY 2023 funding. Meanwhile, OIC-DE Antonio disclosed that the DPWH-Biliran DEO continues to widen the entire existing concrete roads within the Road Network of Biliran Province in accordance to the DPWH National Standards by phases. In the early part of 2024, the district has already a total of 267.424 lane kilometers of widened roads. (pjl/cqs)
